Maulana Maududi: A Prominent Islamic Scholar and Writer
Maulana Maududi (1903-1979) was one of the most influential and prolific Islamic thinkers of the 20th century. He wrote more than 100 books and pamphlets on various aspects of Islam, such as theology, law, politics, economics, culture, and history. He also founded the Jamaat-e-Islami, a political party that aimed to establish an Islamic state based on the Quran and Sunnah.
Maududi was born in Aurangabad, India, and received his early education from his father and other teachers. He learned Arabic, Urdu, Persian, English, and German languages and studied Western philosophy, sociology, and history. He also translated and commented on several Islamic texts, such as the Quran, Hadith, and Fiqh. He started his career as a journalist and editor of various Islamic magazines and newspapers.
Maududi's main contribution was his comprehensive and systematic interpretation of Islam as a complete way of life. He challenged the secularism, nationalism, democracy, capitalism, socialism, and modernism that he saw as threats to the Islamic identity and values. He advocated for a revival of the Islamic faith and practice among Muslims and called for a jihad (struggle) against the forces of ignorance and oppression. He also outlined his vision of an Islamic state that would implement the Sharia (Islamic law) and protect the rights and interests of Muslims and non-Muslims alike.
Maududi's books have been translated into many languages, including Bangla. Some of his most popular books in Bangla are:
